What do buyers really want? What I have found is that most people want to know what makes this town, this community, this street, this house – special and different. I live on an island, so many of the people who come here to buy a home are new to island living. Interspersed with looking at homes, I like to give a taste of Island life, both literally and figuratively.
So if in season, I may stop along a country road and let you pick some blackberries to enjoy at the end of our day. There are of course local wineries and coffee roasting businesses to stop and sample local products. A few minutes at a local farm that sells produce or a quick stop at a farmers market is always a great experience.
Finding out if you are art enthusiasts, weekend culinary artists, or have a favorite sport can lead me to ideas that will make our time spent together richer and more satisfying. Providing a map with all of these special places marked has been greatly appreciated. Buyers can’t remember how to get there yet, but they may certainly want to return after they get settled in a new home on the island.
Here on Whidbey Island we have lots of great public beaches and parks, so even if we don’t have time to visit any of them, I mark special ones for a later walk or another day. Possibly you are interested in libraries or art museums which could be noted on the map for a visit later.
If I have enough time to plan ahead, tickets to a play or musical at the performing arts center, or just a movie at the local movie house is a good end for your day. This planning makes where I live and work a much richer experience for you the clients, and of course me in the end, because making my community feel like home is what both of us want.
What would you like to know about when you are looking for a home in a new area?
